With its dense rainforest, raffia palm swamps, and exotic range of fauna, make Tortuguero one of the most popular reserves in the country. On land, the park covers 19,000 hectares. Visitors can take boats, kayaks or paths to visit this perfect example of tropical rain forest.

Tortuguero National Park

General info. The boat transfer takes about 3 hours to get there from Moín, Limon, (90 kilometers) and it costs $35 one way. Boats departure at 10 a.m.Take a sweater or rain jacket because sometimes it gets a little chilly ridding in the boat. I recommend staying two nights in Tortuguero. We have different options for lodging.

Traveling on the boat

Tortuguero National Park is the most important site in the Caribbean where green turtles lay their eggs, a fascinating spectacle that takes place between February and October, leatherback, loggerhead and hawksbill turtles all lay their eggs here too.

This is the home of a wealth of wildlife, including turtles, from which the park takes its name.
